NFL Week 3 Recap


The first 2 weeks proved that this season in the NFL was going to be very interesting, and week 3 was no different.  In this week there were shockers and excitement, with the Patriots losing to the Bills, the Bills and the Lions going 3-0 for the first time in years, Mike Vick snaps on referees and Tony Romo playing with a punctured lung and broken ribs.  This week in the NFL was action filled and did not leave a fan disappointed, not unless your team received a mark in the L column.

Week 3 Highlights:

  • At halftime Titans Hasselbeck was 16/19 in passes for 172 yards to 7 different receivers.
  • Vick left game for the 2nd game in a row with what was thought to be a broken hand, ended up being a bruised right hand. With Vick out of the game the Giants were able to finish off the Eagles for the first time in 3 years.
  • Vikings and Lions went into overtime with the Lions winning the game by a field goal.  This season is the first time the Lions have been 3-0 since 1980.
  • Texans blew a huge lead over the Saints, allowing the Saints to come back and beat the Texans by a touchdown.
  • The shocker of the week has to go to the New England Patriots.  The Patriots blew a 21-10 lead allowing the Bills to bounce back in the second half beating the Patriots by a field goal with 4 seconds left in the game.  
  • Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers gained its first victory of the season over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
  • Tom Brady threw the same number of interceptions as touchdowns in the loss this Sunday. Brady had 387 passing yards, 4 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.  Although the Bills picked off Brady 4 times they were unable to stop Wes Walker who had 16 receptions for 217 yards and 2 touchdowns.
  • Texans M. Schaub had 373 yards and 3 touchdowns in their loss to the Saints.  Ben Tate continued to start in place of Foster, who has missed the first three games due to an injury, Foster's status this pass Sunday was a game time decision even though Tate was still declared the starter.  Foster was still did not play in the game Sunday.  Tate had 83 rushing yards against the Saints.
  • Lions Stafford had 378 passing yards and 1 touchdown; Vikings McNabb had 211 passing yards and 1 touchdown; Ravens Flacco had 389 passing yards and 3 touchdowns; Jets' Sanchez had 369 passing yards and 2 touchdowns.
  • Newton has began to cool down after two explosive games.  Newton had 158 passing yards and 1 touchdown.  The game against the Jaguars Sunday was the first game of the season where Newton had less than 400 passing yards.
  • Raiders McFadden has been a force to reckon so far in the season as he helped the Raiders get a victory over the Jets rushing for 171 yards for 2 touchdowns.  McFadden's longest gain was 70 yards.  
  • Seahawks gained their first win of the season against the Cardinals.  Kolb in looking to have adjusted just fine in his new home throwing 252 passing yards and 1 touchdown.  
  • Roddy White, who took to twitter stating how disappointed he was that the Falcons lost especially since he had the chance to seal the deal but missed a catch that could have led to a touchdown.  White had 9 receptions for 140 yards.  Matt Ryan had 330 passing yards 1 touchdown and 1 interception.
  • Tony Romo bounced back after suffering a punctured lung and broken ribs last game leading the Cowboys to their second win of the season.  Romo had 255 passing yards while Cowboy's Jones had 115 rushing yards.
