Presidents Approve Four Team Playoffs

After years of fans complaining about the championship selection for NCAA football was less than fair, a presidential oversight committee may have set things in the right direction for upcoming seasons.

The presidential oversight committee approved a proposal that will allow the playoffs to consist of four teams instead of the only two teams that play in the championship game.  The four team playoff will begin in 2014 and will continue through the 2025 season.  Teams will be chosen by a selection committee and the semifinals will be held at current bowl sites with the championship game being awarded to the highest bidder.

The proposal for the four team playoff was put together by several conference commissioners and was voted on by a board of twelve university presidents.  The presidents also endorsed a rotation of the semifinal games among six bowl sites and a rotation of the championship game among neutral sites.  The Semifinals will be played on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day and the championship game will be held on "Championship Monday", which is the first Monday of January.

The two main topics that are still up in the air and will need to be worked out are how teams will be selected and how revenue will be distributed.

Wade to Miss Olympics

Wade has decided to sit out the Olympics due to the need of surgery on left knee. Wade informed USA basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo and Coach Mike Krzyzewski early Thursday.

"I've decided to listen to my doctors and get the procedure I need on my knee. USA basketball said I had to do what was best for me. They want me to be obviously healthy as possible so I can continue to play this game at a high level. They were very supportive and told me if I ever wanted to come around the team, I'm welcome and that I'm a part of the family." -Wade told the Associated Press

Wade's surgery is currently not set but the surgery will be done on the same knee he had surgery on in 2008. Throughout the past season Wade has had his knee drained on several occasions including the day of game 3 in the Heat-Pacers series. The surgery is needed to alleviate fluid building around Wade's knee. Wade made it known that making sure he's ready for the rest of his career with the Heat was his top priority and he should be good to go by training camp.

Marlon Byrd, OF, tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

The league announced Monday that Marlon Byrd had received a 50 game suspension after testing positive for the drug Tamoxifen and will remain on the restricted list until August 20th.  Although Byrd admitted to working with Victor Conte, in which Conte's Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative was at the center of the big steroid scandal involving Barry Bonds among others, Byrd released the following statement after being released:

"I made an inexcusable mistake. Several years ago, I had surgery for a condition that was private and unrelated to baseball.  Last winter, I suffered a recurrence of that condition and I was provided medication that resulted in my positive test.  I absolutely did not use it for performance enhancement reasons."

Byrd started this season playing with the Cubs but was later dealt to the Red Sox on April 21st.  Byrd was designated for assignment with the Boston Red Sox on June 9th and was released four days later.

Robert Griffin III hasn't even played is first game of the NFL and he already has people out to sabotage him and extort him for money.

Ex Baylor athlete Richard Hurd, who played basketball for Baylor from 2004-2007, was arrested Friday in Waco, Texas for attempting to extort money from RG3 and was released early yesterday.  According to the affidavit Hurd attempted to intimidate a St. Louis representative B.D. for money.  The St. Louis representative identified in affidavit as B.D. stood for Griffin's agent Ben Dogra.  The affidavit stated that Hurd informed that he had inappropriate information, which has been identified as videos and photos, on a client of Dogra and he intended to release that information to the media to damage and injure the image and reputation of Dogra's client not unless the client delivered Hurd a substantial sum of money.  Hurd met with Dogra and signed a non-disclosure agreement, handed over the inappropriate information and was given a check for the amount of money requested.  An undercover FBI agent was on hand and Hurd was arrested shortly after the meeting.  Hurd was released Monday after posting $25,000 bond.

There are currently no pending court dates in this case.  Let this be a note ladies and gents be careful what information may be out there about you because there are vultures that are waiting to bring you down in the name of money especially once you become famous.  Keep it classy.

Heat 2012 NBA Champions

"It's about d*mn time" is the statement that Lebron James gave as the superstar was interviewed after the Heat Game 5 victory for the Miami Heat franchise 2nd NBA Championship and Jame's very first championship.  But the Heat becoming the NBA champions were not an easy road, as the Heat took on the Knicks in round one, struggled with the Pacers during round 2 with Bosh out with an abdominal strain, and facing a team use to championship pressure, the Boston Celtics, in the Eastern Conference Finals.  Going through those three rounds in the east they came into the NBA Finals knowing they were facing their toughest competition yet in the young, athletic Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team led by 23 year old superstar Kevin Durant.

Ochocinco Signs 1-year Deal With Dolphins

Chad Ochocinco can change the biography on his twitter to "Employed Black Guy" now.  After being released by the New England Patriots on Thursday, Ochocinco returned to his home in Miami and has found a job right in his hometown.  The Miami native reached an agreement for a 1-year deal with the Miami Dolphins it has been reported.  The 6x pro bowler worked out with the Dolphins as well as his former teammate Terrell Owens since returning to Miami and in doing so landed himself a job, at least for now.  Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin felt there has been room for improvement in the pass-catching aspect of the Dolphins' offense especially after Miami traded Brandon Marshall to the Chicago Bears back in March.  I hope this works out of Ochocinco but we will see come fall.

Brian Banks Given Second Chance

Who said that second chances don't exist?  Well for Brian Banks he's learning first hand that second chances do exist.  In case you haven't heard the story, Brian Banks was a middle linebacker for Long Beach Polytechnic High School who attracted interest from several big name colleges football programs including USC, Ohio State, and Michigan.  When Banks was 17, a childhood friend accused him of raping her.  Banks was arrested and charged with rape in 2002 after his counsel advised him to plead no to contest and an enhancement of kidnapping in order to avoid a life sentence if a jury found him guilt even though there was no evidence of rape when the accuser was examined.

Banks has recently be exonerated of the rape conviction that put him in prison for five years after his accuser recanted her statement.  Since Banks story has come out he has received an offer to work in the front office of the Arizona Diamondbacks as well as interest from several different NFL teams.  Banks has been training nonstop since October and finally his hard work is starting to pay off.  Banks stated "After all I've been through these last ten years I can still do some things that will impress you."  Banks worked out with the San Diego Chargers this past Friday but left without a contract.  Since Banks have accepted the offer of the Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll and will get a formal tryout with the Seahawks during their upcoming minicamp beginning Tuesday, Banks is schedule to begin tryouts Wednesday.  The Washington Redskins, Minnesota Vikings, and San Francisco 49ers are a few other teams that would like to workout with Banks.

"He has the speed and the strength.  Certainly has the heart.  I hope he gets the attention of people in the sports world." -Justin Brooks, Banks' lawyer

Ochocinco cut by patriots

Well it looks like Chad Ochocinco will be watching football from the privacy of his home this season like the rest of us and not from the sideline.  After spending all day Thursday attempting to trade the veteran wide receiver, the New England Patriots decided to cut Ochocinco after there was not enough interest to make a trade by Thursday's transaction 4:00 pm deadline.  It was speculation that Ochocinco had difficulties picking up the Patriots' playbook during last season after ending up with New England last season from the Cincinnati Bengals.  While with the Patriots for one season Chad Ochocinco caught 15 passes for 276 yards and only 1 touchdown.  New England has used this offseason to make some major changes to its wide receiver core signing Brandon Lloyd, Jabar Gaffney, Donte' Stallworth and Anthony Gonzalez (who has since been released by the organization), as well as agreeing to a one year deal with Deion Branch and Wes Walker receiving the franchise tag.

Chad Ochocinco of course took the news in Ochocinco fashion, taking to Twitter and Instagram to show how he was taking the news.  Chad Ochocinco posted the above picture on Instagram with the caption "Unemployed" and his current biography on twitter read "Unemployed Black Guy".  Chad also tweeted "Thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to play for the "Patriot" organization... fans were f------ wicked awesome, I wish all of you the best."

Things just does not seem to be going in good direction for Mr. Ochocinco. Before the news of Ochocinco being released from the Patriots it was also reported that Chad and fiance' Evelyn Lozado from Basketball "hoodrat non-wives" was having difficulty finding a location to hold their wedding in Miami, Florida.  Several hotels in the Miami area has turned the couple away due to some of the incidences that have been seen on the show Basketball Wives.  Hotels, such as the Ritz Carlton has been one of the hotels that gave the couple a no with fear of bad publicity and fear of on camera fights and altercations that may occur during the wedding.  Chad and Evelyn are supposed to be wed sometime this summer and fans of the two would be able to witness the entire thing during the two spin off show that is supposed to air on VH1.  I wonder what happened with the petition that was going around asking for signatures for VH1 to ban the spin off show.  Hmmmmm

Stay tuned to see if Ochocinco will be eventually picked up by another NFL team.
