NFL Week 7 Recap

Week 7 was a week for the books, a couple of records wore broken and some greats stepped up to the plate.  This week was also the week of "new" quarterbacks with 4 different teams starting different quarterbacks than they started in the prior week.  A lot of football fans tuned in to see if Tebow would prove doubters wrong, if the Detroit Lions would jump back on track, if the Green Bay Packers would finally win a game or if the Dolpins, Colts or Rams would finally win a game.  The NFL also traveled across sees this week with the Buccaneers playing the Bears in London.

Week 7 Highlights:

  • Carolina finally got their 2nd win of the season against the Washington Redskin with Cam Newton throwing 18/23 for 256 passing yards, 1 touchdown, 59 rushing yards and 1 rushing touchdown.  The Redskins' Beck had 279 passing yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception in his first time starting for the Redskins during regular season.
  • The Atlanta Falcons broke an on again off again pattern by winning 2 games in a row after holding off the Lions and keeping them to only 2 field goals in the first half.  Matt Ryan, who gave the Falcons a scare going down in the 3rd quarter but returned after being examined by the doctors, ended the game with 218 passing yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 rushing touchdown.  Michael Turner kept it going from last week ending the game with 122 rushing yards.
  • The Houston Texans are on a role but the story from the game is Arian Foster.  Foster ended the game with 25 carries for 115 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns as well as 5 receptions for 119 yards and 1 touchdown.
  • After going down 21-10 in the first half the Jets fought back holding the Chargers to a scoreless 2nd half and coming back to win 27-21.  Burress scored 3 touchdowns in the victory.
  • The Seattle/Cleveland was the game of field goals with the total score for both teams equaling only 9 points.
  • In Tebow's debut as a starter for this season words just can not to describe it.  Tebow was 4/14 in passes for the first 55 minutes of play, but brought the Broncos back within the last 3 minutes of the game being down 15-0.
  • In his debut for the Oakland Raider, coming off the sofa Carson Palmer was 8/21 in passing for 116 passing yards and 3 interceptions.
  • Drew Brees was 31/35 in passing for 325 yards and 5 touchdowns.  The New Orleans Saints had 3 touchdowns in the 1st quarter alone and continued to destroy the Colts throughout the rest of the game scoring double digits in every quarter of play.
  • The Vikings decided to start Ponder instead of McNabb in the quarterback position this week.  Ponder ended the game 13/32 in passing with 219 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions in his debut as the Vikings starter.  Adrian Peterson bounced back from last week with 25 carries for 175 rushing yards and 1 touchdown.

Record Books:
  • Cam Newton tied the record for most rushing touchdowns scored by a rookie quarterback scoring his 7th rushing touchdown of the season this week.
  • Cowboys' Murray had 25 carries for 253 rushing yards (91 yards being his longest gain) and 1 touchdown passing Emmitt Smith for the most rushing yards in Cowboys' history.
  • Tony Gonzalez moved into 2nd place behind Jerry Rice on the all-time most receptions list.
